According to Dr. Torrico, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, with a balanced diet and regular practice of physical exercises, helps to reduce steatosis. “We can also use some medications that help reduce hepatic steatosis”, indicated the doctor. In addition to the fat in the liver itself being a problem for the patient’s body, the gastroenterologist draws attention to other pathologists that hepatic steatosis can cause if it is not treated as soon as possible: “The increase in fat in hepatocytes for a prolonged time can cause inflammation capable of progressing to liver cirrhosis (hepatocarcinoma)”. The nutritionist completes that fat is also related to heart disease and kidney problemsin addition to hypertension and type 2 diabetes.
