Why wear a hat in winter – everyone understands. And why is it needed at positive temperatures? Is it true that you can give up a hat as soon as the snow has melted? aif.ru told about this doctor of medical sciences, therapist Sergey Khomyakov.
As a rule, a healthy adult living in central Russia and adapted to this climate can do without a hat at temperatures from 0 to +5 degrees. However, with strong winds, this air temperature can cause hypothermia. In such cases, a hat should be worn.
Since children are more sensitive to hypothermia, they should wear a hat to a temperature of +10 … +15 degrees.
What threatens too early refusal of a headdress?
The cap protects against local hypothermia, which can lead to a decrease in the local immune properties of the mucous membranes, which is fraught with infectious lesions (for example, the middle ear). Local hypothermia can also result in neuritis, frostbite of the ears, sinusitis and otitis media. Since only a thin layer of subcutaneous fat protects the head, the vessels of the brain are easily constricted under the influence of cold. Local hypothermia can provoke jumps in blood pressure and in some cases lead, for example, to a stroke.

In this case, the hat must be chosen according to the weather. The higher the temperature, the lighter the hat should be. Wearing a hat that is too warm and tight for a long time can lead to increased sweating and damage to the hair, hair follicles. Caps are ideal either from natural or from modern synthetic materials. They are hygroscopic and at the same time protect well from the cold.
The dress should be the size of the head, not tight and not too loose.
Does a hood or headband replace a hat?
Yes, but only in dry, warm and calm weather. Since they do not completely cover the head and ears, they will not save you from hypothermia in case of rain, wind or snow.
