By 2024, more than 100 countries will have:

Completed an evaluation of health security capacity and preparedness

Undergone planning and resource mobilization to address gaps

Strengthened capacities in at least five technical areas to a level of ‘Demonstrated Capacity’

GHSA 2024 Target

By 2024, more than 100 countries that have completed an evaluation of health security capacity will have undergone planning and resource mobilization to address gaps, and will be in the process of implementing activities to achieve impact. These countries will strengthen their capacities and demonstrate improvements in at least five technical areas to a level of ‘Demonstrated Capacity’ or comparable level, as measured by relevant health security assessments, such as those conducted within the WHO IHR Monitoring and Evaluation Framework.

The GHSA 2024 Overarching Target provides a clear goal for GHSA members

Collectively, we have already met the first component of the Overarching Target: 100 countries have completed an evaluation of health security capacity.

We are working our way to reaching the final component of 100 countries demonstrating capacities in five technical areas. As of 2019, 47 countries have met the GHSA 2024 Overarching Target.

Figure 1 | Number of Countries Meeting the GHSA 2024 Overarching Target in 2019.
In 2019, 47 countries are “Meeting the Target” (green) of at least five technical areas at a score of four or higher. 26 countries are “Close to the Target” (yellow), meaning they are within two technical areas of Meeting the Target.
Figure 2 | Progression of Countries Meeting the GHSA 2024 Overarching Target since 2017.
The number of countries meeting the target has been increasing since 2017 from 32 countries to 47. Countries are making incremental progress toward the target as well, in each year the number of countries that is close to meeting the target has increased as well. The grey bar represents the number of countries that have completed a JEE review but are not yet meeting the target.
